toes in the sand dining….

June 20, 2014 By splendid 4 Comments

I find that one of the greatest pleasures in the south of France is what I call “toes in the sand dining”,{a few feet from the sand counts too, in my book, though actual toes in the sand while dining is the BEST}.

When I returned to my hotel room in Villafranche one afternoon, which can be seen in the image above, the white building to the right of the main mast on the sailboat, between the 2nd and 3rd spreaders, I looked out my window and noticed there was still sunshine on the eastern facing beach on Cap Ferrat. So, I called the Passable Beach Club to make a dinner reservation for 8pm {the earliest “available}.

Then I hoped in my little car and scooted over there, because even as unpicturesque as they are, I really wanted to take a “royal nap” in one of these white plastic lounge chairs. These chairs are the norm in this area, I guess because they are easy to stack and move and they hold up to the sea~salt air.
I was very pleased that the beach boy was willing to pull out a matalasse for me, although the beach was nearly empty, and he didn’t even charge me, once he confirmed that I had a dinner reservation {the ONLY dinner reservation for the evening}.

As I rested and swam, there was a steady stream of runners and walkers who crossed the beach as they headed to the relatively flat trail that goes around Cap Ferrat.

Most of the points along this coastline have hiking trails, it’s a great way to get a little exercise and enjoy the most incredible sea views from the land.

But I was recovering from jet lag, so the furthest I walked was to my table on the beach for a glass of rosé,

and simply delicious fresh grilled fish,

and watched the sun set,

absolute perfection.
