La Residencia, Mallorca…

August 25, 2011 By splendid 3 Comments

Finca Hermosa was a good fit for our large group in Mallorca,
we enjoyed the lush setting and the opportunity to inhabit an ancient olive farm in The Belearics.
The furnishings were simple, with a collection of contemporary art that was an ideal contrast to the traditional rustic architecture.
Local artisan pieces complimented the home perfectly, inside,
and out.
If you are travelling with a smaller troop, there are many nice hotels in the area. Our friends stayed in a hotel which was previously a monastery.  Son Bleda is a small, charming hotel with a view of the valley on one side, and from the pool one overlooks the Med. If larger and more luxurious is more to your liking, try La Residencia. It offers a beautiful view of the sea and expansive grounds.
They also offer inspiring art classes for children during the day.
We visited El Olivo, the restaurant at La Residencia one night.
The chef, Guillermo Méndez, is considered to be one of the top in the region. He grew up in the area and prepares a Mediterranean menu. The service is formal, the food preparation is refined, and the kitchen is extraordinary.
He happened to be in da house the night we were there. It was a pleasure to meet him, but I think he a lot on his mind {doesn’t he look kind of nervous? Maybe he is concerned about my review??}.
I loved seeing my favorite dining utensils, a sauce spoon, in my place setting. As my gazpacho sorbet melted over my chunk of marinated tuna, I was able to enjoy every droplet, while perfectly minding my manners {click here to read a previous post on this useful tool}.
Even in this more formal setting, there was a touch of the rustic charm we found all over this beautiful island.
Thank you for visiting Mallorca with me, are you ready to move onto Barcelona?
